FAMILY COUNSELING : HEALING THROUGH CONFESSION

Why do so many families need family counseling? When problems and circumstances such as alcoholism and drug abuse, infidelity, child abuse, and even extreme parental rigidity and control interfere with family functioning, the effects on children can sometimes linger long after children have grown up. Adults raised in dysfunctional families often have difficulties forming and maintaining intimate relationships, positive self-esteem, and trusting others. Everyone has had conflict with their family at some time or another, but for some family counseling is necessary, as the conflict has become a lifetime struggle involving much confusion and emotional pain.

Sometimes we are so anxious to meet our work goals, we forget that waiting at home is a young child who we promised to take to the park, or a spouse who has had to get used to eating alone every night because we are working late. There is a slow but subtle disintegration of unity, and before we know it family counseling is the only solution.

While most would like to believe that family units are supportive, and non-judgmental, this is certainly not always the case because families are made up of people with different ideas, levels of self-esteem and coping skills.

Christian family counseling is about using the Word of God as the basis for counseling, rather than the world view that seeks to give excuses to a problem that is based on man being separated from God.

The family that thrives is the one that can absorb conflict and failure and still exhibit love and acceptance.
