Many people think that marriage is about getting your needs met, and they want to know what they will be getting out of the marriage. This way of thinking is actually about what being single is all about ….ME only. The temptation then is often to give up on marriage because it’s disappointing. This is particularly true in a culture that’s focused on self-fulfillment. A healthy marriage isn't about getting our own needs met …. marriage is viewed as a ministry and when we realise this, hope can resurface in the midst of broken dreams.

Regardless of your level of compatibility, conflict in marriage is inevitable, and you will have to find out if your partner is going to be able to stand the heat. Will they be willing to get help when the going gets tough and talk about things like infidelity, aging parents, illness etc?

Does your partner understand that ALL marriages go through times of drought and that marriage isn't the same as when you were dating. A healthy marriage comes when both partners are willing to stay on course and not quit when the going gets tough.

Vast numbers of books are dedicated to the subject of how to achieve a healthy marriage through each season of married life. A healthy marriage comes from when both partners are committed to God ...if we can't treat one another with decency and respect, then our walk with God is defective. He actually provides us the resources we need in order to work at giving ourselves to each other with patience and forgiveness.
